Our Story
Nimota Care Foundation was born from a deeply personal family experience.
Our Founder’s late father lived alone in his three-bedroom apartment. Although he visited his children regularly and his children were very much involved in his life, he would often say jokingly to them:
“Loneliness kills.”
At the time, his children did not fully understand the depth of what he meant. It was only later, after his passing and as they grew older themselves, that the meaning of those words became much clearer.
His experience created an awareness that caring for older adults—whether they are widowed, single, or living with their partners—goes beyond providing food, visiting regularly, or ensuring that their basic needs are met. Companionship, meaningful interaction, a sense of belonging, and human connection are equally important to well-being.
That realization became the inspiration for Nimota Care Foundation.
Our Beginning
Nimota Care Foundation began operations on September 1, 2021, in Akute, Ogun State, Nigeria. The Foundation was officially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on November 5, 2021, under Registration No. RC 168653. The Foundation is also registered with the Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Development (Women Empowerment Department), Ogun State, Nigeria.
What We Do
The Foundation was established to provide a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment where older adults can connect with others, build meaningful relationships, and participate in activities that promote their overall well-being.
Through our free Seniors Day Program, older adults have opportunities to socialize, share meals, exercise, participate in interactive games and recreational activities, and receive routine wellness support, including blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring.
Our Approach
Our approach is person-centred, strengths-based, and solution-focused. We recognize that every older adult has unique strengths, life experiences, preferences, abilities, and needs.
Our person-centred approach means listening to what matters to each individual and supporting participation in activities that are meaningful to them. For example, one person may enjoy interactive games and social activities, while another may prefer exercise, conversation, art, or other forms of engagement. Rather than assuming that every older adult needs the same type of support, we respect individual choices, preferences, and abilities.
Our strengths-based approach means recognizing and building on what each older adult can do, the knowledge and life experiences they bring, and the abilities and interests they continue to possess. We focus not only on challenges, but also on each person’s strengths, resilience, independence, and potential for continued participation in community life.
Our solution-focused approach means working with older adults to identify practical ways of addressing concerns and improving their well-being. For example, when loneliness or social isolation is a concern, we create opportunities for connection through shared meals, interactive games, exercise, conversation, recreational activities, and community participation. When a health or wellness concern is identified through routine blood pressure or blood sugar monitoring, we provide health education and encourage appropriate follow-up where needed.
Our work is grounded in healthy aging, dignity, respect, companionship, social connection, preventive health, community participation, and recognition of each individual’s choices, strengths, and lived experiences.
What Guides Us
The words “Loneliness kills” remain an important part of why we do what we do. They remind us that supporting older adults is not only about meeting physical needs; it is also about creating opportunities for connection, belonging, purpose, and meaningful human relationships.
At Nimota Care Foundation, we believe every older adult deserves to feel seen, heard, valued, connected, supported, and cared for.
